What is Superstition?


Superstition is important in lives because it gives people a golden precept on how to appreciate life. Thus, most Indians are highly superstitious. This community live by laying on the superstitions since it is related to belief and culture. However, some people said that superstitions are ridiculous but it is depends on the way and how people accept it. Moreover, there are many reasons why people used to believe in superstitions and one of the reason is luck. While most modern people don't avoid open umbrellas in buildings, many sophisticated people do carry good luck charms. Tiger Woods believes that red is a lucky color. (Anna W, pg 3). In addition, superstitions are also exist in other culture like Japan. Japanese believe that number four is the unluckiness number because the sound "four" like the word for death. In summary, superstitions are important to everyones and it is acceptable in some culture.




-LIST OF SUPERSTITIONS-

*If your ears turn red that means someone is gossiping about you

*If you have guests over and you want them to leave, just dust some salt in their shoes

^These were superstitions that people in Turkey say.

*To predict the sex of a baby: Suspend a wedding band held by a piece of thread over the palm of the pregnant girl. If the ring swings in an oval or circular motion the baby will be a girl. If the ring swings in a straight line the baby will be a boy.

*If a robin flies into a room through a window, death will shortly follow.

*If you dream of death it's a sign of a birth, if you dream of birth, it's a sign of death.
