VIVA PRESENTATION... Cont'd...

Based from my observation, i can say that the best presenters goes to Zaidi and Rashidah since both of them are very good in stated their opinion on the selected articles. Thus, they know how to attracted the audience by provided some examples which is relevant and logic. The voice projection and body language, both are good and the most important thing, the contents of their presentation are easier for us to understand.

VIVA PRESENTATION

I don't expect that the 1st assignment will be used in viva presentation. This kind of presentation was really helpful and useful for me in the future. It is all about how u attract your audience with something that they don't even think about it. Thus, the presentation is about how you stick with your opinion and decision based on your belief and perception although you had being psycho during the Q & A section by the penalize.

So far, i enjoyed myself doing viva presentation since i love to present something in front of audience especially if it involves logically thinking and does make a sense. Thus, i can say that my classmates done their job well where most of them are really good in giving the evidence based on the articles.

As for me, i had chose the article "The Value of television by Paul Robinson" because the contents of the article is true and i am totally agreed with the author. In addition, television is a medium that one's addicted of. Nowadays, many beneficialness programs can be seen at television. In order to change the perception of my classmates that television would give more advantages, so I had stated several evidence based on their experiences as well. However, this is really good and enjoyable moment when there is an argument to improve one's knowledge. Finally, i hope that Mr Mark will teach us again in different subject soon and give us more knowledge to adapt in the future.

Do you know about the Discourse Analysis?

Discourse analysis means point of view and ideology

During lesson, Mr Mark has given us an article, "So Long Old Friend!". The article is about teenagers, smoking habit and cigarette. It is obviously cool because the author is Mr Mark himself. There are many euphemistic language examples that can be found in the article, for example, blue capos (the prefect of school), euphoria (weird), mischievous (naughty boys), john (the toilet) and Pak Mansur (the Prime Minister). Logically thinking, i never thought that the 'John' is actually referred to toilet and blue capos is prefect. At that time, we has given a task by Mr Mark to identify the thematic words and phrases, point of view and ideology based on the article given. Some of the examples that can be found are;

Thematic Words & Phrases

Point of View

Ideology

1.“Stay the hell away”

2.Long lecture

3.Rascals

4. Mischievous

1.Concerned parents about the dangers of smoking towards their children

1.Smoking is a dangerous habit.

2.Smoking can influence people especially the youth to negative actions.

1.Boys will be boys

2.Bad guy

3.Tender age

4.Machismo

5.Flocking around

6.Wise guy

7.James dean

8.Steve Mcqueen

1. Immature teenager

2. Impressionable youth

1. Smoking is an exciting way to gain social acceptance from peers and the opposite sex.

What is Language Perspective and Ideology?

When first time being introduced by the perspective and ideology, i was quite surprised because the last time i heard of these two words is when i was in form 5, learned about the history of Malaysia. The language Perspective and ideology
involved several skills that has been taught by sir Mark during semester 4. For instance, thematic words and phrases, elementary process and discourse analysis. For this topic, 'the language perspective and Ideology', I've learned about how to judge something based on what people said. For example, in a video about ISLAMOPHOBIA, the President of United States, Barrack Obama said that Islam have their right to apply their religion in US. However, i can say that although the contents are positive, but he still show his true color at different way, where people hard to identify what is actually the hidden agenda. Thus, many famous politician gave their opinion and said that a mosque cannot be build at Ground Zero to respect the tragedy of 11 September. In my perspective, i would say that they are afraid if more Catholic converted to Islam. Hard to believe, but this is the truth.

ISLAMOPHOBIA... Cont'd..

Have you ever heard about Lauren Booth? She is an American woman, Catholic of course.. who converted to Islam. If the Jews said that ISLAM is TERRORIST, then why Lauren Booth chose to converted to Islam? News that Lauren Booth has converted to Islam provoked a storm of negative comments. Here she explains how it came about – and why it's time to stop patronizing Muslim women.

Lauren Booth : 'How hard and callous non-Muslim friends and colleagues began to seem'.

It is five years since my first visit to Palestine. And when I arrived in the region, to work alongside charities in Gaza and the West Bank, I took with me the swagger of condescension that all white middle-class women (secretly or outwardly) hold towards poor Muslim women, women I presumed would be little more than black-robed blobs, silent in my peripheral vision. As a western woman with all my freedoms, I expected to deal professionally with men alone. After all, that's what the Muslim world is all about, right?

This week's screams of faux horror from fellow columnists on hearing of my conversion to Islam prove that this remains the stereotypical view regarding half a billion women currently practising Islam.

*This is the latest evidence that people don't have to feel fear to Islam. Islam is beautiful... If not, why a famous people like Mike Tyson, the late Micheal Jackson and Lauren Booth were converted to Islam? Think about it.

ISLAMOPHOBIA...

At first, i do wonder what is ISLAMOPHOBIA. Then, after lesson, i knew that ISLAMOPHOBIA is about fear of Islam.. Seriously, i think that people has made a big mistake by created this term. As a Muslim, when some people said (especially Christian) said that Islam is a terrorist, i am totally get angry and was thinking why all those people say so? Then, i realize that i have to use my left brain to judge something.

ANIMAL FARM by GEORGE ORWELL

I've watched the movie, Animal Farm by George Orwell last month and I've found that the movie is something related to our politic nowadays. In my personal view, i can say that the napoleon appeared in the movie represents a selfish politician that betrayed a country because of money. Thus, the attitude of the napoleon may harm the citizen.

Here is several things that makes me interested with the movie. The Seven Commandments are laws that were supposed to keep order and ensure elementary Animalism within Animal Farm. The Seven Commandments were designed to unite the animals together against the humans and prevent animals from following the humans' evil habits. Since not all of the animals can remember them, they are boiled down into one basic statement: "Four legs good, two legs bad!" (with wings counting as legs for this purpose, Snowball arguing that wings count as legs as they are objects of propulsion rather than manipulation), which the sheep constantly repeat, distracting the crowd from the lies of the pigs. The original commandments were:

  1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy
  2. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend.
  3. No animal shall wear clothes.
  4. No animal shall sleep in a bed.
  5. No animal shall drink alcohol.
  6. No animal shall kill any other animal.
  7. All animals are equal.

Who is Julius Caesar?

102/100 BCE: Gaius Julius Caesar was born (by Caesarean section according to an unlikely legend) of Aurelia and Gaius Julius Caesar, a praetor. His family had noble, patrician roots, although they were neither rich nor influential in this period. His aunt Julia was the wife of Gaius Marius, leader of the Popular faction.

c. 85 BCE: His father died, and a few years later he was betrothed and possibly married to a wealthy young woman, Cossutia. This betrothal/marriage was soon broken off, and at age 18 he married Cornelia, the daughter of a prominent member of the Popular faction; she later bore him his only legitimate child, a daughter, Julia. When the Optimate dictator, Sulla, was in power, he ordered Caesar to divorce her; when Caesar refused, Sulla proscribed him (listed him among those to be executed), and Caesar went into hiding. Caesar's influential friends and relatives eventually got him a pardon.

75 BCE: While sailing to Greece for further study, Caesar was kidnaped by Cilician pirates and held for ransom. When informed that they intended to ask for 20 talents, he is supposed to have insisted that he was worth at least 50. He maintained a friendly, joking relationship with the pirates while the money was being raised, but warned them that he would track them down and have them crucified after he was released. He did just that, with the help of volunteers, as a warning to other pirates, but he first cut their throats to lessen their suffering because they had treated him well.

A euphemism is a substitution for an expression that may offend or suggest something unpleasant to the receiver, using instead an agreeable or less offensive expression,[1] or to make it less troublesome for the speaker, as in the case of doublespeak. (Wikipedia)

        1. "In today's uncertain world, you cannot reveal too much of yourself.... or they will crucify you!"

~NOAM CHOMSKY~

The 1st assignment is too challenging... Thanks to Mr.Mark..

"The Jews and the Deceits" By Adolf Hitler

Being a student is not a challenge if you doesn't experience a bad journey. Having a lot of assignment is something common for those who hold the title of student. Because of that, I didn't expected that i would do some research about someone that i don't like. Who is the lucky person?? Adolf Hitler! Yes...it was him.. For the first assignment, i need to do some research about him and come out with the rule of 10 that I've learn in this subject, Critical Literacy. Thus, the best part is when he came out with his point of view about The Jews, i realize that my perception towards him has already changed! However, it's only change about that matters only. Moreover, i hate The Jews very much and the convincing argument by Hitler about The Jewish are totally right. Anyway, i agree with Hitler and supporting his argument!

"The Influence of Heredity on Malay Race" By Mahathir Mohamad

The excerpt by Dr Mahathir Mohamad is quite interesting but i don't agree with the content. He claimed that the genetic factor is the main reason of poor examination performance among Malay race. However, he is totally right that Malay people is left behind compared to other races but i totally denied when he said Malay race should married with other races as well to expand the generation and to have a good genetic. Therefore, it shows that he is being biased by this statement since he was from mix family where his father is not Malay. Thus, the best part about this article is when i had an argument with one of my friends since he totally agree with the excerpt while i am totally disagree with Dr Mahathir. I told my friend that if he is stupid, then it is because of his parents. He was very angry and came out with his opinion, perspectives also positioning. I can't believe that both of us are already completed the first article in just an hour! Thanks to Zulmajdi... hehe

I've learn about Syllogism...

Today, I've learn something valuable related to my subject core, Critical Literacy. Thus, I found it very interesting and help me a lot in making excellent statements. Do you know what Syllogism is all about?

There are three major types of syllogism:

Syllogisms are particularly interesting in persuasion as they include assumptions that many people accept which allow false statements or (often unspoken) conclusions to appear to be true. There is a difference between truth and validity in syllogisms. A syllogism can be true, but not valid (i.e. make logical sense). It can also be valid but not true.

My opinion about Jewish and the effect to the Palestinian and Israel conflicts

The Jews is labelled as a cruel people before. Nowadays, the Jewish has hidden agenda and their own strategic ways to manipulate the world's thinking. Thus, the Muslim people is being blamed for everything that happen nowadays. In my personal view, i can say that Jewish is trying to take what they think belong to them as they did everything because of the revenge. Furthermore, Jewish people claimed that Palestine is their land although the truth is vice versa. Jewish people kill many Muslim people including women and kids without feeling sympathy. The conflict between Israel and Palestine will never end because Israel will never give up of achieve their own target (to conquer Palestine) and Palestinian will never surrender in this conspiracy.

4 Things why Muslim hate Jewish

  1. Racial Theory - Jews are an inferior face
  2. Economic - Jewish possess too much wealth and power
  3. Chosen People - Jews arrogantly claimed that they are the chosen people
  4. Scapegoat - Jews are a convenient group to single out and blame for other troubles

STEVE JOB - Connecting the Dot

What is Superstition?

Superstition is important in lives because it gives people a golden precept on how to appreciate life. Thus, most Indians are highly superstitious. This community live by laying on the superstitions since it is related to belief and culture. However, some people said that superstitions are ridiculous but it is depends on the way and how people accept it. Moreover, there are many reasons why people used to believe in superstitions and one of the reason is luck. While most modern people don't avoid open umbrellas in buildings, many sophisticated people do carry good luck charms. Tiger Woods believes that red is a lucky color. (Anna W, pg 3). In addition, superstitions are also exist in other culture like Japan. Japanese believe that number four is the unluckiness number because the sound "four" like the word for death. In summary, superstitions are important to everyones and it is acceptable in some culture.

-LIST OF SUPERSTITIONS-

*If your ears turn red that means someone is gossiping about you

*If you have guests over and you want them to leave, just dust some salt in their shoes

^These were superstitions that people in Turkey say.

*To predict the sex of a baby: Suspend a wedding band held by a piece of thread over the palm of the pregnant girl. If the ring swings in an oval or circular motion the baby will be a girl. If the ring swings in a straight line the baby will be a boy.

*If a robin flies into a room through a window, death will shortly follow.

*If you dream of death it's a sign of a birth, if you dream of birth, it's a sign of death.
